![]() Exercise Echo TreadmillThis test is used to determine if the heart is receiving enough oxygen-rich blood during exercise and to assess general heart function, using a combination of treadmill and echocardiogram testing.EchocardiogramThis echocardiogram shows the heart's activity. A small device is held onto the chest, producing images of the heart by means of sound waves. These are transmitted onto a computer screen and recorded. From the images, the doctor can get a clear picture of the heart's movements, and diagnose any abnormalities.HolterPatients who suffer from fainting, palpitations or dizziness are tested on the Holter which records the rhythm of the heartbeat. Irregularities in heart rhythm can be identified in this way and subsequently treated.Cardiac CatheterizationThis diagnostic procedure involves the placement of a small plastic tube along a blood vessel to the heart. This technique makes it possible to measure heart function and determine the presence of blocked coronary arteries.Coronary Angioplasty and StentingCoronary artery disease can be effectively treated by a process known as Angioplasty. In order to widen a blocked entry, a balloon-tipped catheter is inserted into the artery, inflated to compress the plaque, and is then removed. When necessary, other therapeutic tools such as Stents or Rotoblators are available to open blocked arteries. These procedures are designed to improve the quality of life and decrease the need for open heart surgery.
